Who: Ernie and Linus
What: Searching out evil-doers... Um, I mean Prefect Rounds
Where: Hogwarts Halls
When: Saturday, 15 November - before curfew
Status: Complete

Ernie had changed into his school robes sometime after dinner with the knowledge that he had rounds with Linus that night, and Ernie as always did his best to look professional even on a weekend. Certainly, he could have dressed more casually... but his Prefect badge didn't look quite as well on anything else.

As he walked down the hall toward where he and his friend would meet, he felt a wiggling in his pocket. With a small smile, he pulled out Bert and pet him affectionately, the motion calming him as always. "Don't fret now," he muttered softly as he lifted his pet so that their noses met. "It'll only be another hour or so, then we'll be snug in bed. If you're good, maybe we'll stop by the kitchens on the way back and fetch you a small piece of monterey jack."

Who: Ernie, open to DA members (would Padma like to make her first post? ;))
What: Ernie discovers a problem with one aspect of his magic
Where: The Room of Requirement
When: Saturday, 15 November - late morning
Status Incomplete

After breakfast, the first part of Ernie's morning had been spent fielding questions from some of the lower year students on their various classes. However, instead of the usual topic-related discussions he would usually expect, their concerns had more to do with Snape's regulations, as well as the teaching methods of Podmore and Carrow. Ernie had done his best to allay any fears without letting on how worried he was becoming at the accounts that they gave. He feared what might happen if any of them spoke out of turn, and was for the millionth time grateful he was a Hufflepuff - their students were not the ones with reputations for acting out.

It had taken some time, but he had finally sent the students all on their way, allowing him to slip away to the one place he knew where he could practice his magic without being observed - the Room of Requirement. He had simply expressed the need for a practice room, and for a couple of hours had practiced several charms and curses, if only to keep remembering how to use them. The more he practiced, the more confident he grew in his abilities, until there he stood, imagining a Dementor floating opposite him, and sifting through his mind to find a thought to power a Patronus.

And much to his chagrin, finding failure with every thought.Collapse )

Who: Ernie and Hannah
What: Ernie makes a three little discoveries, and Hannah makes one
Where: Prefects' Bathroom
When: Friday, 14 November - before curfew
Status: Complete

After a long day - Merlin, a long week - and the feeling of accomplishment from finally getting somewhere after his conversation with Neville, Ernie had opted for the large, magnificent bathtub in the Prefects' bath. He had soaked for what felt to him like hours, but had only been thirty-five minutes, in the warm vanilla-scented water, a sugar quill stuck in his mouth. He had only released his hold on the sweet to wash himself, and to get up out of the tub. The moment he had finished drying off, the quill had slipped once again between his lips right before he reached for his pyjamas and put them on, then slid his bathrobe overtop of them.

He had been stood at the washstand, his teeth sparkling after a good brushing (for which he once again had to remove the quill from his mouth) and his hand rubbing along his jaw, when he came to a sudden discovery. When his fingers ran along his chin, he felt a... scratching sensation.Collapse )

A Sword In My Side

Who: Ernie and Neville - possibly Luna and Ginny too
What: Where, oh where has my little sword gone?
Where: Astronomy tower, top level
When: Friday, 14 November - after dinner
Status: Incomplete

Ernie frowned as he closed the book in his lap, then added it to the large stack on his right. A look to his left reminded him that there was only one volume left, and he had yet to find much information on the topic of Gryffindor's sword.

With a sigh, he stuck his hand into the bag next to the lone book and pulled out a handful of chocoballs which he popped one at a time into his mouth. He could feel the burst of flavour from the strawberry mousse and clotted cream that were hidden by the chocolate, but instead of savouring them as most would, he simply continued eating more. With his spare hand, he grabbed the last book and pulled it onto his lap, then began searching through the Table of Contents and Index in search of some clue to his quest.

Just a Notion about a Potion

Who: Ernie and Michael
What: Catching up on Ernie's missing day, and trying not to blow themselves up
Where: Potions Class
When: Thursday, November 13
Status: Complete

Ernie had actually been quite glad to enter his Potions classroom that day. There would be no sympathetic looks from Hannah or Justin, no raised-eyebrow of inquisition from Zach, and certainly not the newly forbidden presence of Megan there to taunt him. He could simply concentrate on his work, maybe catch up with someone from the DA on the meeting he'd accidentally slept through the night before, and pretend for a couple of hours that everything was absolutely normal.

Professor Slughorn spent a few minutes going over the potion they would be working on that day, then told them to get into pairs to implement it. Most students immediately paired up with friends from their own Houses, but Ernie was the only Hufflepuff from his year. He looked around the room and spotted Michael across the aisle, then tried to catch his eye. He'd much rather be paired with a friend than someone he could barely tolerate.

The Courtyard Compromise

Who: Hannah Abbott, Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, Ernie Macmillan, Anthony Goldstein, Michael Corner, Ginny Weasley, Megan Jones, Theodore Nott, Linus Vaisey, Zacharias Smith, Aurora Sinistra and Sloane Wickham.
With NPCs: Dumbledore's Army, Minerva MacGonagall, Pomona Sprout, Filius Flitwick, Horace Slughorn, Argus Filch.
What: A compromise is proposed. "The Courtyard Compromise."
Where: The Courtyard.
When: Before Breakfast; November 13th, 1997.
Status: Open to Students, etc.

It was a rich gold viscous color, especially when held up to the light- not quite as beautiful as Felix Felicis, perhaps. Hannah, however, was fairly certain that its color was meant to induce calm. Odd that the potion was gold then. Hannah had always thought of blue as the most subdued and calming of colors. Or maybe a nice foresty green. It didn't really matter, she supposed. With shaking hands, she unstoppered the vial. The familiar ozonous scent wafted against the girls nose, followed by the calming smell of jasmine and lavender. Her lips, however, sudden dry smacked as she recalled the strange taste before it was even placed to her lips. It was sort of like drinking flowers, she supposed.

Next time Abbott, write a fricking memo.Collapse )

looking down

This isn't the end... the sun still comes out.

Who: Michael Corner, Ernie Macmillan and a brief appearance by Hannah.
What: "Boy-tawk." Sometimes Knights need a little rescuing too.
When: Before dinner and the DA meeting; November 12, 1997.
Where: Hufflepuff Common Room; Boy's Dorm.
Status: Complete

Michael's eyes narrowed in a perceptive, shrewd stare at the door to Hufflepuff. Spoken behind him came the word- "Kermit" which Michael would immediately disavow knowing. The voice was distinctly feminine, belonging to Hannah Abbott. Michael was tempted to glance behind him and look to the blonde girl, but instead watched as the door opened.

He waited and waited, but nothing less came of it. The door simply opened and Michael was ushered inside. "He's upstairs in his room." Came Hannah's voice again, her delicate hand pressed in guidance to Michael's much taller small of the back. It found it a little uncomfortable, but distracted his thoughts with the plates of food he held like a waiter, one on his arm and one in his hand.

"Right." Michael said in his soft, calm voice, though laced with determination. He then ventured to the 7th Year Boy's Dorm and managed to open the door. The decor was vastly different than he was used to. It was... almost homey. Warm and eclectic. As the door opened, Michael peered inside.

"Hope you've got room for the unexpected," Michael said to the single occupant, speaking with a sideways smirk. His tall body made itself known in full Ravenclaw garb, save for his robes. Michael had dressed down to one of his sweater vests but the rest spoke fully of Ravenclaw. "Crofts mate, this is the most amateur, lax security I think I've ever been witness to. Where are the snarling badgers? The unbreakable vow? The big, burly lads in padding all willing to mess me up if I stick a toe out of line?"

Michael smile widened as he sauntered in, "At least we have an Unbreakable Vow. And occasionally we threaten to tie you up and read Goblin Poetry to you until your ears bleed..." Michael gestured dismissively with his hand, "Or you know... you gnaw off your own arms."

Aid and Comfort

Who: Hannah Abbott and Ernie Macmillan (with a brief appearance by Wayne, with the permission of Lucas).
What: Hannah hears the news in an offhanded way.
Where: Hufflepuff Commons; Boy's Dormitory.
When: November 12th, 1997. Before Breakfast.
Status: Ongoing.

Despite the late night spread, Hannah found herself famished. She dressed quickly, intent on beating a hasty path down to Breakfast for the promise of a heaping plate of piping hot eggs Benedict and bangers. Pumpkin Juice... Oh glorious Pumpkin Juice! Hannah thought to herself, as that particular food just seemed ready to hit her spot. The type that happily nestled into one's soul and fortified for most of the day.

A few things stopped her from her beeline down to the Great Hall. Sprout, unable to locate Ernie apparently, called on Hannah while she was still braiding her hair. Apparently a handful of Hufflepuffs and according to Flitwick, a couple of Ravenclaws had spent the night in the Infirmary. The common root to their illness- Michael's party. Immediately Hannah felt a sense of anger and guilt. She asked if Michael was among them, to which Pomona had to confirm that yes, he was. With food poisoning ruled out immediately, the cause pointed to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes products.

A different kind of sickCollapse )

Who: Ernie and Megan
What: Sometimes you do what you have to, no matter how much it hurts
Where: Hufflepuff Common Room
When: 11 November, night - after this thread
Status: Complete

Zach had just exited, leaving Ernie and Megan alone together, and while this was something that would usually have him overjoyed, he felt a strange... trepidation that he was quick to ignore. Megan had been acting strangely all day - perhaps something had happened that she was wary to tell him?

"Is everything all right?" he asked tentatively, stepping over to her side. He hoped it wasn't her parents, as enough had happened to them already.
